REM Graduates Receive The 2007 Drees & Sommer Award

On 31st May 2007, three graduates from the Real Estate Management Master’s Study Program received this year’s 2007 Drees & Sommer Award. The Drees & Sommer Award serves to recognize and promote the managers of the future.
Daniel Bormann was awarded first prize for his Master’s thesis on the theme of „Integrated Benchmarking – Push Factors Behind Project Development“, in which he developed a reference model for integrated benchmarking that offers the Real Estate economy the chance to learn both from other industries as well as from industry and in-house innovation.
Second prize was awarded to Anja Scherf and Martin Diestel for their Master’s thesis entitled “PPP – Is The Public Private Partnership Managing to be an Economic and Organizational Foundation for the Renaissance of Public Parks?” Using the real-world example of Fritz Schloss Park in Berlin’s Mitte district, they developed both organizational and financial instruments, which put municipalities and private investors in a position of be able to economically evaluate the potential of public parks. It mainly deals with the question of how this potential can be tapped to ensure that two elements are realized: on the one hand, the political aim of providing green areas available for the free-of-charge use of the public, and, on the other, the private partner’s economic interests.
All three prize winners have completed their studies this year. Daniel Bormann has started up his own enterprise in the field of project development and innovation management. Anja Scherf works for a Berlin architecture firm. Martin Diestel works as a manager for aurelis Real Estate GmbH & Co. KG in the area of major project marketing for Berlin.
